The Arksen 85 is a true explorer, with efficiency, comfort and safety at its core, designed to provide an exceptionally capable, robust and versatile platform whether for self-sufficient world cruising or weekend cruising with family or friends. With a challenging brief to meet specific performance, comfort, and safety requirements in combination with minimising environmental impact, the design of the Arksen 85 has undergone extensive research and development to find the optimum balance of features.
Key features of the design include a highly efficient fast-displacement hull form to minimise fuel consumption, optimised and refined by HYD over an extensive R&D program, comprising both model testing and high fidelity Rans CFD analysis; increased stability margins to deal with ice accretion and provide the highest levels of safety when operating in the remotest areas of the planet; high levels of comfort through optimised seakeeping characteristics and active stabilisation from a combination of gyro stabiliser and zero speed stabiliser fins; large tank capacities providing exceptional range and self-sufficiency; high load carrying capability to allow a wide range of equipment for both recreational and research purposes to be carried, including a submerscible up to 3 tonnes in weight; rugged aluminium construction, with shell plate thicknesses significantly greater than rule requirements to enhance durability and peace of mind in the event of a collision; ability to be beached and dry out on own bottom.
Humphreys Yacht Design have been at the heart of Arksen’s Explorer Series since the initial concept development, providing naval architecture and exterior design and styling for these stand-out explorer vessels.
